News & Reviews of Coco Bistro

New ownership has not dimmed the luster of this exceedingly appealing spot. Coco Bistro lies on a plot of land that in the 1980s was a plant nursery, which has since grown into the largest palm grove on the island. Meals are enjoyed outside under the palms in the romantic garden. The food is as superb as the setting. Try the crispy crab wontons or the tower of fresh local lobster (with mango, pineapple, and fresh vanilla bean) to start. For mains, sample the ravioli of conch and grouper with a basil pesto-scented rosé sauce, soft-shell-crab tempura, or the roast rack of Colorado lamb with pomegranate molasses and macadamia-nut crust. The resident cat, Coco, is the happiest feline around; she dines on fish every night, morsels from satisfied customers.

Set underneath a canopy of soaring palm trees, this outdoor restaurant offers hearty alternatives to the steady diet of conch and fish. There's a 16-ounce bone-in prime rib, rack of lamb and a Caesar salad served with bacon and a peppery dressing. You might even inquire about taking a palm tree home with you from the nursery right next door.

Think palm trees... so many they create a virtual canopy above, a natural ceiling of palm fronds oscillating and sashaying in the dreamy, sultry breezes, where nothing else comes between you and an incomparable island night sky.

36 Hours in Turks and Caicos

Dangling at the southern end of the Bahamas island chain like an after-thought, Turks and Caicos was often overlooked as a Caribbean destination. But thanks to some of the swankiest names in hotels — Regent, Amanresorts and Meriden, to name a few — Turks and Caicos is now firmly on the map of those seeking a beach vacation with heavy pampering and a splash of indulgence.
